Abu Dhabi Law No. 12-2023-Concerning the Punitive and Correctional Establishments

The given law, Abu Dhabi Law No. 12/2023, concerns punitive and correctional establishments in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. It applies to establishments responsible for executing conviction rulings and pre-trial detention orders issued by the courts and prosecution offices of Abu Dhabi Judicial Department. These establishments are managed by Abu Dhabi Police GHQ Command. The law does not apply to federal establishments. The law transfers the management of these establishments from Abu Dhabi Police GHQ to Abu Dhabi Judicial Department. Members of Abu Dhabi Police GHQ working at these establishments will be seconded to Abu Dhabi Judicial Department for a year, with the possibility of extension or transfer based on work requirements. All assets, properties, rights, obligations, and budgets related to these establishments will be transferred from Abu Dhabi Police GHQ to Abu Dhabi Judicial Department. The Chairman of Abu Dhabi Judicial Department, Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, will issue necessary decisions to implement the law, in coordination with Abu Dhabi Police GHQ when necessary. The law was issued by Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler of Abu Dhabi, and will come into force on January 1, 2024. This law aims to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the punitive and correctional establishments in Abu Dhabi, ensuring a smooth transition of management responsibilities and maintaining the proper execution of conviction rulings and pre-trial detention orders.
